TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Pittsburgh women’s tennis team dropped a 4-0 decision to No. 6 seed Louisville on Thursday in the first round of the 2012 Big East Women’s Tennis Championship held at the USF Varsity Courts.
Due to championship rules, all matches were stopped after the contest was clinched.
Unfortunately for the Panthers, junior Gabrielle Catanzariti was mounting a come-back in No. 2 singles, as she took the second set 6-3 after falling 6-2 in the opening set.
Earlier, the Panthers (10-9) slipped in doubles action after taking losses in the No. 2 and No. 3 matches. The No. 1 pair of Lu and Washington were closing in on their Louisville (12-9) counterparts, 5-3, but the rally was cut short.
Pitt moved to the consolation bracket and will play on Friday at 3 p.m. at the USF Varsity Courts. An opponent will be announced later today.
