NORFOLK, Va.—The University of Pittsburgh women’s tennis team earned valuable experience in the Hampton Roads Invitational, hosted by Old Dominion, this season.

Action began on Friday, as sophomore Elizabeth Adams (Reading, Pa./Wilson) defeated Alice Chen (7-5, 6-2) in her opening match. However, she slipped to 1-1 in singles with a 0-6, 2-6 fall in the quarterfinals.

Also earning the win, junior Sabrina Visram (Orlando, Fla./Lake Highland Prep) advanced out of the round of 16, but fell in the quarterfinals to Joanna Dobrowolska in the tiebreaker (3-6, 7-5, 0-1).

Senior Christie D’Achille (Gibsonia, Pa./North Allegheny) would pick up a victory in the tournament during the consolation round over Casey Conklin (8-0), to improve to 1-1 in the tournament.

Likewise, freshman Minh Evans (Lansdale, Pa.) won her consolation match, 8-2, over Aandria Carr.

In doubles play, D’achille and Visram posted a 1-2 record, winning their first match in the consolation bracket, 8-1.

Later, junior Marie Eanes-Fennelly (Macon, Ga./Central) and senior Fran Liebenguth (Jefferson Hills, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) recorded an 8-5 victory in their consolation match.

Pitt ends its fall season at the four-day ITA Regional Championships in Philadelphia, Pa., on Friday, Oct. 24.
