EBENSBURG, Pa. – The University of Pittsburgh women’s tennis team is set to open the 2013 campaign this Sunday morning at St. Francis (Pa.). First serve at the Ebensburg Tennis Center is set for 9 a.m.
The Panthers, who return all six starters from last year’s squad, are coming off one of their strongest fall seasons in program history. Sisters Amanda and Molly Wickman recorded the most impressive doubles victory of their careers as the duo defeated Penn State’s veteran tandem of Henderson/Sandor in the first round of the ITA Regional Championships at Virginia Tech.
The fall season also saw Taylor Washington and Kimmy Borza win their respective singles brackets at the Saint Joseph’s Invitational. Washington and her doubles teammate Jocelyn Lu won the Flight B doubles titles at both the Saint Joseph’s Invitational and the Navy Blue and Gold Invitational.
Pitt defeated the Red Flash last year by a score of 7-0 and is 22-0 in the all-time series with St. Francis. Following this weekend’s match, Pitt heads to Buffalo on January 26th before opening a four-match home stand beginning on February 2.
