BUFFALO, N.Y. – Coming off a season-opening 6-1 victory against St. Francis, the University of Pittsburgh women’s tennis team will take on the University at Buffalo this Saturday afternoon. First serve at the UB Tennis Center is set for 1 p.m.
The Panthers defeated the Red Flash 6-1 last Sunday by sweeping all three doubles contests, and winning five of six singles matches. Pitt is now 23-0 all-time against St. Francis and is 10-1 in its last 11 season-opening matches.
Pitt’s top doubles tandem of Jocelyn Lu and Taylor Washington look to make it 10-consecutive doubles wins dating back to the fall season. The duo won the St. Joseph’s Invitational and the Navy Blue and Gold Invitational this fall, then opened the spring season with a victory in first doubles against St. Francis.
This is the first match of the spring for the Bulls. Buffalo played to an overall record of 7-12 in 2012 and returns six players from a year ago, while only losing one. Pitt and Buffalo last met two seasons ago in Buffalo as the Bulls came out victorious with a narrow 4-3 victory.
Following this weekend at Buffalo, Pitt opens a four-match home stand beginning on February 2, against Georgetown. Included in that home stand will be matches against St. Bonaventure, Bucknell and St. John’s.
