PITTSBURGH – After two tough road losses, the University of Pittsburgh tennis team (3-4, 0-2) returns home to host Villanova University (0-1, 0-0) on Saturday at the Alpha Tennis and Fitness Center. First serve is set for Noon.
Last weekend in Syracuse, Pitt suffered a neutral site loss to Binghamton as the Panthers lost by the score of 4-3 on Saturday morning. The Panthers dropped the doubles point for the first time this season, but registered singles victories on courts one, four and six.
One day later, Pitt fell to 0-2 in conference play with a 6-1 defeat at Syracuse. Molly Wickman in sixth singles was Pitt’s lone point of the contest.
Despite the losses, Kimmy Borza and Gabrielle Catanzariti ran their doubles record to an unblemished mark of 7-0 with a pair of victories in third doubles.
The Panthers look for their first Big East Conference victory of the season against the Wildcats after losses to Georgetown and Syracuse. Their match which was scheduled for February 9th with St. John’s was postponed because the Red Storm’s flight from New York was canceled during the blizzard Nemo.
This is the first of four straight home matches for the Panthers before ending the season with six of eight coming on the road. Pitt will also host California (Pa.), Cornell and Rutgers during the home stand. Pitt has won two straight at the Alpha Tennis and Fitness Center.
