PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Coming off a 6-1 conference victory against Villanova, the University of Pittsburgh women’s tennis team (4-4) will take on California University of Pa. this Sunday afternoon. First serve at Alpha Tennis and Fitness Center is set for noon.
The Panthers defeated the Wildcats 6-1 last Saturday by sweeping all three doubles contests, and winning five of six singles matches. Kimmy Borza dropped only one game in her match at number five singles, while Karma Parbhu lost only two games on court six.
Pitt’s doubles tandem of Kimmy Borza and Gabrielle Catanzariti continue to boast a perfect record in doubles play this season. Following their 8-2 victory over Villanova, the pair is now 8-0 in doubles action. They also earned conference wins over Georgetown and Syracuse earlier this month.
California (Pa.) holds a 3-3 record following a 6-1 loss to Bowling Green last weekend. Earlier in the season, the Vulcans blanked both Villanova and Denison 7-0 and also topped Carnegie Mellon 5-2. Sophomore Lucie Rey proves to be a key player in the California (Pa.) lineup as she has won her last four singles matches at the fourth position.
Last season, the Panthers suffered a heartbreaking 4-3 loss to the Vulcans. Despite the defeat, Pitt captured the doubles point and also singles wins from both Borza and Taylor Washington.
Following this weekend, Pitt continues their home streak and will host Cornell on Saturday at 10 a.m., and Big East rival Rutgers on Sunday at 2 p.m.
