Women's Tennis Earns a No. 9 Seed in Big East Championship

April 13, 2009

PITTSBURGH—Tying its highest-ever seed in the Big East Championships, the University of Pittsburgh women’s tennis team will travel to Tampa, Fla., for the league championships, which are held Thursday, April 16, through Sunday, April 19.

Recording a ninth-place seed, Pitt faces No. 8-seed Cincinnati at 9 a.m., on Thursday. Should Pitt advance to the second round, the Panthers will play top-seed Notre Dame at 9 a.m., on Friday.

Pitt (11-8, 6-3 Big East) recorded the most conference wins in school history, this season, which is one more than the 2007-08 team. Additionally, the Panthers have an opportunity to tie or break the record of six shutouts in a season, last set during the 2006-07 season.

The Panthers look to improve on last year’s historic run in the tournament, where they won two matches for the first time in program history.
