PITTSBURGH — The University of Pittsburgh’s women’s tennis team enters the Big East Championship Tournament as the No. 11 seed, meeting No. 6 seed Louisville on Thursday, April 19 at noon.
Pitt (10-8, 5-5 Big East) has qualified for the Big East Championship in four of the last five seasons. The Panthers are coming off a split weekend with a 6-1 victory over Providence and a 6-1 loss to Rutgers this past weekend.
Pitt earned its 11th doubles point of the year in the win at Providence. This season, the Panthers have swept the doubles seven times and captured two-of-three matches in four other contest.
Leading the team in singles action, sophomore Taylor Washington posted her 21st singles victory of the year against Rutgers. Washington has won six consecutive, straight-set singles matches and currently ranks ninth overall in the all-time single-season record book (21-7).
In doubles play, the No. 3 pairing of freshmen twins Amanda Wickman and Molly Wickman boast a 16-5 record this season. They have earned six victories in their last eight matches, including a five-contest win streak. Individually, M. Wickman is 20-6 on the year in doubles action.
