Women's Tennis Assistant Coach Nikki Borza Travelled to Jamaica

July 31, 2009

NEGRIL, Jamaica –Pitt’s women’s tennis assistant coach Nikki Borza recently worked alongside the Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) in their community development project, and volunteered as a tennis instructor to the local youth.

Along with several other PTR-certified instructors, Borza helped teach a large group of under privileged Jamaican children the fundamentals of tennis. For one week she was the head instructor of the camp, teaching 35 kids ages 6-14.

“I had such a wonderful time getting to know the kids and introducing them to the game of tennis,” Borza said. “They were so enthusiastic; it was so great to watch them improve even just over the course of a week.

“The PTR is doing a great job of spreading tennis to talented kids in different parts of the world, who might otherwise not have the opportunity to play,” Borza added. “ I am so happy that I got to be part of such a special project."

PTR was founded in 1976 and is an organization that focuses on the education and development of players and coaches in the sport of tennis around the world. PTR represents the largest global tennis organization of teachers and coaches with more than 13,800 instructors in 122 countries worldwide. Their community development project works to make the game of tennis accessible across the world.
