PHILADELPHIA - The University of Pittsburgh women’s tennis team opens up its fall competition schedule this weekend, Sept. 28-30 at the St. Joseph’s Invitational.
Along with St. Joe’s and Pittsburgh at the tournament will be: Bucknell, Delaware, Drexel, Lafayette Temple, St. Francis (Pa.) and Villanova.
The Panthers enter their fall season with the return of every player from last year’s starting line-up, including senior Gabrielle Catanzariti, juniors Kimmy Borza, Jocelyn Lu, and Taylor Washington, and sophomores Amanda and Molly Wickman. Also competing this weekend are junior Karma Parbhu and sophomore Blair Brown. Brown will be competing in her first ever match for Pitt.
Last fall proved to be a successful season for the Panthers. Borza captured the Flight C Singles Championship at the Martha Thorne Invitational at West Virginia University, and Molly Wickman was named the runner-up in the Flight B bracket. Borza and partner Catanzariti also claimed a runner-up finish at West Virginia in the Flight B doubles draw. In the 2011 Women’s Eastern Collegiate Tournament held at West Point, N.Y., Washington was the runner-up in the Flight D Winner’s bracket.
