The Pitt women’s tennis team travels to Blacksburg, Va., this weekend for the three-day Hokie Fall Classic, Sept. 27-29, hosted by Virginia Tech. The Panthers are coming off a successful opening weekend at the Bill & Sandra Moore Invitational at Navy, capturing three titles.
“We are really excited to play our second tournament of the Fall season,” said head coach Alex Santos. “We feel that as a program we are moving in the right direction and that the team is beginning to understand the way Pitt Tennis travels, competes and operates on a daily basis.
“At the Navy Invitational we were able to improve throughout the weekend and conclude at a high level. We plan on starting the Hokie Fall Invite at the same level of intensity that we finished with last Sunday. What will differentiate us a program will be the ability to do the right things on a consistent basis and to understand that no matter how much we keep improving there will be always space to get better.”
Competing for the Panthers this weekend at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center will be freshmen Audrey Ann Blakely and Lolade Ogungbesan, sophomore Katherine Castro, juniors Amanda and Molly Wickman and seniors Kimmy Borza, Jocelyn Lu and Taylor Washington. Other participating teams in the tournament, comprised of three singles and two doubles flights, will be James Madison, Liberty, Marshall, Radford, Virginia Commonwealth and Virginia Tech.
