ANNAPOLIS, Md. - For the second-consecutive tournament, the duo of Jocelyn Lu and Taylor Washington won their doubles bracket, while Amanda Wickman won her singles bracket at the Navy Blue and Gold Invitational this weekend.
Lu and Washington won the Flight B doubles bracket by defeating the team of Palmucci/Andriescu of James Madison, 8-6. In the Flight C finals, Wickman topped A. Burke of Towson in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2.
The Panthers also had two runner-up performances as Molly and Amanda Wickman teamed up in doubles and was defeated by Pinchoff/Nguyen of James Madison in the championship of the Flight A doubles bracket by a score of 8-4. Junior Kimmy Borza also reached a championship, but lost in a super tie-breaker of the Flight D finals to Wirth of James Madison, 6-7 (3), 6-4, 5-10.
"Four our second invitational of the fall season, Pitt tennis accomplished a lot at the Navy Blue and Gold Invitational," head coach George Dieffenbach said. "Lu and Washington played great and won the Flight B doubles over a tough team from James Madison, and Amanda Wickman played very consistent and took the Flight C singles title over a strong Towson opponent.
"All players on the team improved as a result of competing to the max at an excellent venue at the U.S. Naval Academy against strong competition."
The Navy Blue and Gold Invitational marks the conclusion of fall tennis for the Panthers, except for the Molly and Amanda Wickman who will participate at the ITA Regional Indoors next weekend and Virginia Tech. The duo will be in the doubles main draw, while Molly will also play in singles.
