Toso Earns Pole Vault Title

URBANA-CHAMPAGNE, Ill.—Junior Victoria Toso won the pole vault title, as Pitt’s women’s track and field team placed sixth in the Carle/Health Alliance Classic, hosted by Illinois at the U of I Armory indoor facility. Several other Panthers posted ECAC and Big East qualifying standards.

Toso won the pole vault after clearing a height of 3.35M in the meet.

Later, senior Erinn McMahon recorded a collective second-place finish in the Pentathlon, scoring 3,104 points. In the course of the day, she placed third in the high jump, long jump and shot put. McMahon was then fourth in the 800 meter run and 60M hurdles.

Scoring in the finals of two events, junior Anita James was third in the triple jump (11.69) and sixth in the long jump (5.63M). Both leaps were over the Big East standard for the season.

In the sprints, junior Da’ Lynn Mills recorded another ECAC qualifying mark in the 60M dash when she ran a 7.67 in the finals of that event. Likewise, sophomore Cambrya Jones recorded a Big East qualifying mark in the prelims of the 60M dash, crossing the finish line at 7.73.

Junior Brianna Broyles turned in an ECAC qualifying time in the 60M hurdles, placing fourth in the prelims at 8.65. Additionally, freshman Brittany Carroll's 11th-place prelim finish (8.99) slid under the Big East standard.

Broyles was later the lead leg of the 4x400M relay that claimed a fourth-place finish at 3:55.34. Broyles was joined by freshmen Arielle Fonrose, Jonnique Lawrence and Rachael McIntosh.


 

 

In the open 400M dash, Fonrose and freshman Amanda Kuhl placed seventh and eighth overall.

Sophomore Miya Johnson led the Panthers in the one mile run with a 10-place performance, while Lawrence paced the squad in the 200M dash for 12th overall.

In the finals of the 800M run, senior Kari Hedderick finished fifth and freshman Korinne Piper was ninth. Additionally, junior Kari Weimerskirch recorded a top-five finish in the high jump.

Lastly, sophomore Alexis Wilder recorded a seventh-place performance in the weight throw and was 15th in the shot put.

Pitt will travel back to State College, Pa. on Friday, Jan. 29, for the two-day PSU National Open.
