PITTSBURGH-The University of Pittsburgh women’s track and field team wrapped up competition at the Pepsi Florida Relays in Gainesville, Fla., and at the Colonial Relays in Williamsburg, Va., as several of its relay teams turned in impressive performances on Saturday, April 7.
“We competed at a high level this weekend against some of the top competition in the country,” Pitt head coach Alonzo Webb said. “We performed very well at two very competitive meets.”
At the Florida Relays, the 400-meter relay team of sophomore Jordan Hoyt, juniors Ashley Woodford and Arielle Fonrose and senior Cambrya Jones finished seventh with the squad’s best mark of the season at 44.90.
In another top-10 finish, the 800-meter relay team composed of Jones, freshmen Xauddina Whittington and Taylor Ellis-Watson and junior Jonnique Lawrence finished ninth, crossing the finish line in 1:37.07.
The 1,600-meter relay team of Fonrose, Lawrence, Hoyt and Jones finished 14th (3:40.41).
Individually, sophomore Ashley Corum finished 13th in the triple jump with a leap of 12.05 meters.
The Panthers return to action April 13-14 at the Bison Classic in Lewisburg, Pa., and at the Sea Ray Relays in Knoxville, Tenn.
