PITTSBURGH- The University of Pittsburgh women’s track and field team put forth a strong performance on Friday at the 46th annual Sea Ray Relays at Tom Black Track at LaPorte Stadium in Knoxville, Tenn.

“We had some good things happen today,” Pitt head coach Alonzo Webb said. “We did well across the board which was nice to see. A lot of our athletes stepped up with some top-15 finishes.”

In the 200-meter dash, junior Jonnique Lawrence crossed the finish line in second (24.14) while sophomore Jordan Hoyt finished sixth (24.48).

The Panthers had three athletes finish in the top-11 in the 100-meter dash. Lawrence finished third (11.91) while Hoyt finished ninth (12.10) and junior Ashley Woodford crossed the finish line in 11th (12.17).

In the 400-meter hurdles, junior Natalie Ryan (1:04.16) and sophomore Mariame Conde (1:04.24) finished ninth and 10th, respectively.



In the field events, freshman Brittany Lightfoot finished fifth in the discus with a Big East qualifying mark of 41.55 meters. Sophomore Ashley Corum finished sixth in the triple jump with a leap of 11.78 meters.

In the hammer throw, senior Robin Gilmore finished 11th with another Big East qualifier of 45.81 meters.

The Panthers return to action on Saturday at the Sea Ray Relays while other members of the team will begin competition at the Bison Outdoor Classic in Lewisburg, Pa.

The Sea Ray Relays will also feature the Sea Ray Showcase on Saturday, a portion of the meet that includes only the top heats in nine different events.

Freshman Taylor Ellis-Watson will run in the 200 and 400-meter dash events in the showcase while senior Cambrya Jones will run in the 200-meter dash. The 400 and 1,600-meter relay teams will participate as well.
