PITTSBURGH-The University of Pittsburgh women’s track and field team concluded competition at the 46th annual Sea Ray Relays in Knoxville, Tenn., on Saturday at Tom Black Track at LaPorte Stadium.
“We had a really good meet,” Pitt head coach Alonzo Webb said. “We definitely held our own in the showcase events. It was nice to see them perform so well. Some of the things we’re starting to do now are not surprising at all, we’re starting to expect them.”
Senior Cambrya Jones won the 200-meter dash showcase with a mark of 23.31 while junior Jonnique Lawrence finished second in the 400-meter dash showcase (54.67).
The 400-meter relay team of sophomore Jordan Hoyt, juniors Jonnique Lawrence and Ashley Woodford and Jones finished second in the showcase with a time of 45.07.
The Sea Ray Showcase was a part of the meet that featured just the top heats in nine events.
Freshmen Casey Meier (40.52 meters) and Brooke Shasteen (38.21 meters) turned in top-10 performances in the javelin, finishing fifth and eighth, respectively. Both times are Big East qualifying marks.
In the shot put, freshman Brittany Lightfoot
finished ninth with a throw of 13.76 meters to qualify for Big East’s.
