PHILADELPHIA – Taylor Slaney finished third in the javelin and Evann Thompson was seventh in the 400 meter hurdles to highlight day one of the Penn Relays for the University of Pittsburgh track and field team.
Slaney posted a distance of 46.28m (151-10 feet), which was her second best throw of the season. She placed third only behind Laura Loht of Penn State and Sara Oczypok of Kent State.
In the first event of the day, Thompson finished seventh in the 400 meter hurdles in a career-best time of 59.42. It was the first time of her collegiate career Thompson has gone one 60 seconds in the 400 hurdles. Natalie Ryan posted a personal record in the same event with a time of 1:01.53, while Elizabeth Kline had a time of 1:01.91. Ryan and Kline finished 26th and 30th, respectively.
The women’s 4x400 team of Arielle Fonrose, Kline, Jordan Lee and Thompson placed 16th overall in a time of 3:42.64, which is the second fastest 4x400 time of the season for the Panthers.
Action continues all day tomorrow at Franklin Fields and concludes on Saturday evening.
