STATE COLLEGE – The University of Pittsburgh men’s and women’s track teams are heading to State College, Pa. this Saturday, January 12, to compete at the Nittany Lion Challenge.
The Panthers will be returning to Horace Ashenfelter Indoor Track just seven days after completing a successful showing at the Penn State Relays. Pitt left State College with a first place finish, along with numerous career-best times.
Joining Pitt and Penn State at this weekend’s meet is: Albany, Cornell, Maryland and Oklahoma.
After winning her first collegiate event last weekend, freshman Taranisha Taylor looks to defend her 60 meter hurdle championship. She will also participate in the 60 meter dash, the 200 meter dash and the 4x400 relay.
Joining Taylor in the 60 meter dash will be senior Arielle Fonrose, who placed third in the 200 meter dash this past weekend, and fellow freshman Jordyn Smith, who also will be running the 200 meter dash.
Rachel Brown will attempt to beat her personal-best time of 10:24.35 and a third place finish in 3,000 meter run, both of which occurred last weekend. Running alongside Brown in this event will be Paige Anderson, Kathryn Born, Hillary Boxheimer and Alexandra Cady.
Finding themselves entered in both the long jump and triple jump this weekend are Ashley Corum, Julia Koloski and Paige Lumley. Senior Elizabeth Kline and junior Natalie Ryan will both compete in the Long Jump, along with the 600 meter dash and 60 meter hurdles.
The Pitt women’s track team, which will have a total of 33 participants Saturday, also has relay teams entered in the 4x400 and Distance Medley Relay.
