GENEVA, OHIO - The University of Pittsburgh men's and women's track and field teams will travel to the SPIRE Indoor Track & Field Complex for the SPIRE Indoor Track Invitational this Friday and Saturday. This weekend's venue will be the site of the Big East Championship Meet to be held next weekend.
Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for seniors over 65, kids under 12, and active or retired military on Friday night. Tickets on Saturday are $8 for adults and $5 for seniors, kids and military.
This event will host big-time collegiate competition for the Panthers as programs such as Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan, Michigan State, Purdue, Illinois and Cornell, along with Pitt, headline the field of participating schools. The top three Canadian track and field programs, Western Ontario University, University of Guelph and the University of Toronto will also be attending.
Mid-distance runner Charles Ross will highlight the men on Friday as he is seeded second in the 600 meter dash and is seeded first in the 1,000 meter run. On Saturday, Brycen Spratling is ranked first in the 400 meter dash, while female sprinter Funmi Alabi is seeded first in the 60 meter dash.
The women's 4x400 meter relay team will aim for a national qualifying time as they will be up against some of the top competition in the country, including teams from Penn State, George Mason, Illinois and Michigan State. The Panthers currently hold the 24th fastest time in the nation with a 3.40.10 which was ran at the Nittany Lion Challenge.
