PITTSBURGH-The University of Pittsburgh women’s track and field team will travel to Tampa, Fla. this weekend to compete in the Big East Outdoor Championships May 4-6.
Pitt is hoping to build off its strong performance last weekend at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pa., and the Ashland University Alumni Open in Ashland, Ohio.
Last weekend at the Penn Relays, the 800-meter relay team of Jones, Lawrence, freshman Xauddina Whittington and sophomore Jordan Hoyt combined to finish fifth in the Championship of America Final, winning the ECAC section (1:34.60).
Similarly, the 400-meter relay team of Hoyt, Lawrence, Jones and junior Ashley Woodford won the ECAC final with a mark of 45.58.
At the Ashland University Alumni Open, freshman Taylor Slaney not only set a personal record but also a meet record with her first place finish of 44.28 meters in the javelin.
