Davis and Webb III Get Promoted

Oct. 24, 2012

Pittsburgh- Two track and field coaches-Kia Davis and Alonzo Webb III-are moving up in the ranks.  Davis has been promoted to Assistant Head Coach for sprints and hurdles and Webb III has been promoted to Assistant Coach for jumps and multi-events.

Davis enters her second full season with the Pitt track and field team.  Over her first two years, she has helped numerous Panthers break personal bests and alter the Pitt record book.  Before arriving at Pitt, Davis served as an assistant coach at Delaware State and at Bethune-Cookman.  One of Davis' crowning achievements was competing in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing representing Liberia.

Alonzo Webb III is entering his first year as an Assistant Coach for the Panthers.  Webb III graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 2010 and was a member of the track and field team prior to joining the coaching staff as a volunteer coach. He has helped several Panthers set new personal bests and win Big East a Big East triple jump title as a freshman.

Head track and field coach Alonzo Webb had this to say about the promotion of his coaches: "For any program to be successful you need loyalty from your staff and continuity. I believe that both coach Kia and coach Zo share my vision for success and truly care about our student-athletes. I consider coach Kia and coach Zo as two of the country's brightest rising stars in the coaching ranks. Both have made an immediate positive impact in their respective event areas, therefore I am pleased to make these promotions and look forward to the continued improvement in their groups as we transition into the ACC Conference."
