PITTSBURGH - Members of the Pitt track and field team, in conjunction with the Cathy and John Pelusi Family Life Skills Program, donated over 230 canned food items to the city of Pittsburgh and spent a part of Wednesday afternoon delivering them downtown at Market Square.
Ashley Corum, Hillary Doucette and Chelsea Scott of the women's team, and Dustin Fuller, Olivier Philogene and Reginald Steele IV, along with Assistant Head Coach Kia Davis, dropped off the canned goods that the team had collected at its annual Blue/Gold Meet last week.
Along with donating an enormous amount of food to a wonderful cause, the team was able to experience the decorations of Market Square and was able to have their picture taken with Santa Clause.
"It was a great experience for the team today; something a lot of them have not experienced yet," Davis said. "We stress how important it is to give back to the community. At the end of the day, if you are blessed, it is always good to bless other people who are less fortunate. We do it because it feels good, but also because it is the right thing to do. We had a great time today, and they were excited to be making a difference."
The Panthers are off until after the New Year when Pitt travels to Penn State for the Penn State Relays on January 5th.
