AS A JUNIOR (2006)
Melissa Ferguson continued to improve as a defensive specialist, playing in 31 matches and 98 games...set a career-high three service aces and two digs against Ole Miss (Aug. 26)...recorded four digs against Duquesne (Sept. 5)...scored on three service aces against Lehigh (Sept. 9)...contributed five digs against Robert Morris (Sept. 12)...recorded three digs against No. 24 Arizona (Sept. 15)...had four digs against Long Island (Oct. 27)...known for ability to remain consistent and calm in clutch situations...a valuable player off the bench with an accurate serve...had 18 service aces on the year.
AS A SOPHOMORE (2005)
Ferguson played in 22 matches as a defensive and serving specialist, including the Panthers' two matches at the OSU Buckeye Classic (Sept. 16-17) and 13 of Pitt's 15 Big East matches...recorded 29 digs in 53 games, including a career-best-tying five at Duquesne (Sept. 6) and at Cincinnati (Oct. 23)...had five aces this season, one each vs. Duquesne, Duke (Sept. 17) and Rutgers (Sept. 25), and two versus West Virginia (Oct. 14)...also added four digs in the four-set win over the Mountaineers.
AS A FRESHMAN (2004)
Ferguson played in 16 matches as a defensive and serving specialist for the Panthers...played in all 10 Big East regular-season matches...had a season-high five digs against Syracuse (Nov. 14)...posted two digs in her Big East debut against St. John's...recorded three digs against North Carolina (Sept. 10)...had her first career service ace in the loss to Dayton (Sept. 25)...played in all three matches of the Pitt Classic.
Ferguson played for nearby Baldwin High School, where she led the Fighting Highlanders to section and WPIAL titles as a junior and senior...also helped Baldwin to the state semifinals both years...was named first-team all-section as a senior in 2003 and a Scholar-Athlete Award winner in 2003 and 2004...played club ball for Pittsburgh Elite for the past five years...led her team to an 18th-place finish at the AAU Nationals in Atlanta, playing up in her age group...a National Honor Society member and graduated with high honors from Baldwin.
