As a Redshirt Junior (1999): Jen Nickels appeared in 14 matches for the Panthers and 42 games...earned a starting role six times...set or tied her career-high marks in four categories...tallied 33 total blocks for a team-leading 0.79 blocks per game...averaged 2.14 kills per game...played in 15 Big East Conference games and averaged 2.00 kills and 0.73 blocks...recorded a career-high 16 kills two times...set the mark in the first match of the season against Kent (Sept. 1) to help Pittsburgh to a 3-2 win...also had 16 kills in a 3-2 win over James Madison (Sept. 17) in the Pittsburgh Invitational... made a career-high 40 attempts and had three digs versus Kent...had a season-high .389 hitting percentage versus Ohio State (Sept. 15) with seven kills on 18 attempts with zero errors...had double-figures in kills in four matches, including Kent and James Madison with 16...also had 12 kills at Syracuse (Oct. 1) and 10 against Boston College (Nov. 14) in the final match of the season...recorded a season-high six blocks three times...combined for six block assists against Wyoming (Sept. 19)...had two solo blocks and four block assists versus Kent and one solo block and five assists against James Madison. As a Redshirt Sophomore (1998): Nickels experienced a breakthrough season during her 1998 campaign after seeing little action due to injury the prior two years...healthy for the first time in her career, Nickels developed into one of Pittsburgh's strongest blockers...tallied 55 blocks in 18 matches and averaged a team-high 1.06 blocks per game...also led the Panthers in conference play with 0.94 blocks per game...hit .260 overall and averaged 1.75 kills per game...recorded a .299 hitting percentage in 31 conference games to place her third among Big East leaders...averaged 1.6 blocks per game in the last seven matches she played and six blocks per match...recorded eight blocks, including seven block assists in a 3-2 win over West Virginia (10-31)...set a career-high in the Big East Tournament against Notre Dame with nine total blocks (five solo, four assists)...tallied seven block assists in a 3-0 sweep of Dartmouth on Nov. 7...recorded double-figures in kills four times, including a career-high 12 against West Virginia. As a Redshirt Freshman (1997): Nickels saw her first collegiate action against Youngstown State in which she registered a .500 hitting percentage and contributed a dig and a block...named a Bell Atlantic Scholar-Athlete and Big East Academic All-Star. As a Freshman (1996): Nickels redshirted her first year at Pittsburgh...made the Athletic Director's Honor Roll twice. High School: Nickels was named to the first-team W.O.L and District Nine lists...received the Gatorade Player of the Year award...named District Nine MVP...lettered three times for Coach Kathy Lee at Springfield North High School...also lettered four times in swimming...was a member of the National Honor Society.
