As a Junior (1999): Marcia Thiesen appeared in 20 matches during her junior campaign and started nine...averaged 2.41 kills per game overall and was second on the team with 3.45 kills in Big East Conference play...averaged a team-high 3.78 digs per game overall and was second with 3.12 in league action...served a team-high 24 aces, including 15 in Big East play...also averaged 0.54 blocks per game...posted a team-high 10 double-double performances, including six-straight from Oct. 24 to Nov. 14 to close out the season...reached double figures in kills or digs in 16 matches...set or tied five career marks...had her best offensive performance of the season Nov. 14 versus Boston College with a .429 hitting efficiency (15 kills, 28 attempts, three errors)...set a new career mark with 25 digs against West Virginia (Nov. 5) to go along with 13 kills, four aces and four blocks...had a career-high four solo blocks at St. John's (Oct. 10)...also combined for two block assists in the match for a career-high six total blocks...recorded a double-double at Rutgers (Oct. 31) with 15 kills and 11 digs while adding a career high five block assists...helped Pittsburgh to a 3-1 win over Wyoming (Sept. 19) with a season-high five service aces.
As a Sophomore (1998): Thiesen saw action in 29 of the Panthers' 30 matches as a sophomore...averaged a team-high 3.47 kills per game in matches overall and 3.50 kills per game in Big East play...also had a team-leading 854 attempts...set a career mark with her 21 kills in a 3-1 win over host Harvard in the Harvard Classic...also added 19 digs, three aces and three blocks to her performance...had another stellar performance in the next match of the Harvard Classic against St. John's with 19 kills, 20 digs, three block assists and two aces...earned Big East Co-Player of the Week for her efforts in the Harvard Classic when she helped lead the Panthers to four straight victories...tied her career-high mark in kills with 21 against Connecticut Oct. 4...had 12 double-double performances last season...recorded a career-high six total blocks Nov. 14 against Notre Dame with two solo blocks and four block assists.
As a Freshman (1997): Thiesen played in all 28 matches for the Panthers...a defensive force, she finished among the league leaders in digs in conference matches with 360...was the team leader in digs with 360, 308 kills, and a total 866 attempts...registered 27 aces...had double-double (17 kills-30 digs) in the Panthers 3-2 win in the Big East Championships vs. Syracuse...was voted to the All-Tournament Team by the coaches at the University of Wisconsin Inntowner Invitational in which she registered a combined 21 kills, 79 attempts, served one ace, 18 digs and five block assists in 3 matches...recorded her first double-double in the University of Tennessee Toyota Lady Vol Tournament with 16 kills and 25 digs.
High School: Thiesen was named a National All-Star her junior year while playing for coach Mort Giles...was a key member of the 1997 Ontario Provincial Team in the Canada Games...graduated with academic honors...also was an honor student her freshman and sophomore years.
Personal: Born Feb. 28, 1978...has one brother...is a business major...is the daughter of Mike and Edith Thiesen.
