VILLANOVA, Pa.—Junior Meagan Dooley records a double-double, as the Panthers won their Big East opener with a 3-2 comeback victory over Villanova, this afternoon. Pitt won the match with scores of 19-25, 15-25, 25-16, 25-16 and 15-11.

Dooley (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) recorded her first double-double of the season with 10 kills and 11 digs. She also stuffed six Wildcat (8-6, 0-1) attacks in the contest.

Additionally, senior Kelly Campbell (Mansfield, Ohio/Mansfield/Pacific) led all with a match-high 21 kills, while junior Michelle Rossi (Cleveland, Ohio/Padua Franciscan) chipped in 19 digs.

Trailing 2-0 in the match, Pitt (8-7, 1-0) held the Wildcats to less than a 10% hitting percentage the rest of the contest. In the fourth set alone, Villanova hit for a negative .02 hitting clip that included six Panther blocks.

Pitt’s best hitting performance was in the third set, where they posted a .419 hitting clip and 15 kills. In that contest the Panthers got off to a slow start but took the eventual lead with an 11-9 kill from Dooley. Campbell collected six kills in the set.

The Panthers earned the win in the tiebreaker with 10 kills and five Villanova errors. Sophomore Amy Town (Orillia, Ont./Orillia) tallied a set-high six kills in the deciding match, recording 13 kills and two aces in the match.

Freshman Allyson Hodnik (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) came off the bench in the match and finished with 32 assists.
