Winning its sixth conference match of the season, Pitt (14-8, 6-1 Big East) held the Mountaineers (6-13, 0-6 Big East) to a .051 hitting percentage, while out-blocking them 12-6. In the third and fourth sets, West Virginia balanced out with a combined 16 kills and 16 errors for a .000 attack clip.

The Panther were led by senior Jessica Moses (North Olmstead, Ohio/Lutheran West) on the blocking attack. She stuffed eight balls in the match, including seven block attacks. Moses is inching closer and closer to the career block assist crown (386) with 371 to date.

Senior Kelly Campbell (Mansfield, Ohio/Mansfield/Pacific) recorded a double-double with a match-high 19 kills and 11 digs, while classmate Stephanie Ross (Dayton, Ohio/Chaminade-Julienne) was close with a season-high 16 digs and eight kills.

Posting 12 kills in the match was sophomore Amy Town (Orillia, Ont./Orillia), while junior Michelle Rossi (Cleveland, Ohio/Padua Franciscan) chipped in 25 digs. This is the third match in the last five contests that Rossi recorded 20 or more digs and her eighth overall on the season.

After dropping the first set due to 11 errors, the Panthers bounced back with a 25-17 win in the second set. Tying the match at 1-1, Campbell led all with 11 kills and Rossi boasted 14 digs after two contests.

Next, Pitt had to fight back from an early deficit in the third set. Finally the Panthers took the lead at 11-8 after Campbell's serve tipped the net and fell short, in front of two defenders that were caught off guard.

Still leading and on a 7-3 Panther run, freshman Allyson Hodnik (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) served three points for Pitt as the Mountaineers committed three consecutive attack errors. Holding a 17-11 advantage, the Panthers forced a West Virginia timeout.

Several plays later, Rossi served her 13th ace of the year to push Pitt ahead, 21-16.

After two rotations, Town re-entered the set to give Pitt its 24th point with a kill. A WVU attack error on the next play would give Pitt a 2-1 lead in the match.

Following the first three sets, Moses held a .727 hitting clip with eight kills off 11 attempts.

In the final set of the match, Campbell led the Panthers with three kills and two aces. Pitt held match point in the fourth set after sophomore Imani Harper (Yonkers, N.Y./The Masters School/Temple) recorded a kill.
