PITTSBURGH—Senior Kelly Campbell recorded a double-double, this afternoon, as Pitt’s women’s volleyball team slipped in a 3-0 decision to St. John’s at Fitzgerald Field House. The Panthers fell to 14-10 on the year and 6-3 in the Big East with scores of 15-25, 18-25 and 23-25.

Campbell (Mansfield, Ohio/Mansfield) recorded her 13th double-double of the season with match highs of 13 kills and 13 digs. Junior Michelle Rossi (Cleveland, Ohio/Padua Franciscan) chipped in 10 digs, while sophomore Amy Town (Orillia, Ont./Orillia) had nine kills in the contest.

A block from sophomore Imani Harper (Yonkers, N.Y./The Masters School) and senior Nicole Taurence (Trenton, Mich./Trenton) knotted the third set at 11, before St. John’s went on a 5-0 run to take the lead. Pitt fought back and closed the gap at 21-19 with a solo block from Dooley on a one-on-one play at the middle of the net.

A few plays later, Harper re-entered the game and recorded a kill to keep it a two-point game, 23-21. A service error stretched the Red Storm lead to three and gave them a match point. However, Pitt would hold with a sideout thanks to a senior Stephanie Ross (Dayton, Ohio/Chaminade-Julienne) kill.

A St. John’s attack error gave Pitt a chance to tie the set, but the Panthers would misjudge an attack on the next play, falling 25-23 in the final set of the match.

In the first set of the contest, Pitt committed eight attack errors and were held to a .062 hitting percentage. Pitt did, however, out-block the Red Storm 3-2, as senior Jessica Moses (North Olmstead, Ohio/Lutheran West) and Taurence combined on two stuffs.

Despite the second set being tied at 5-5, the Panthers fell 0-2 in the match after falling 25-18. Campbell recorded a team-high four kills in the second set, while freshman Allyson Hodnik (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) tallied nine assists.

Hodnik collected a match-high 31 assists.

The Panthers travel to Rutgers on Saturday, Nov. 1, at 2 p.m.
