Moses and Dooley Move Up In Record Books
Nov. 9, 2007
PITTSBURGH--Junior Jessica Moses and sophomore Meagan Dooley move up in the record books, as Pitt's volleyball team suffers a 3-1 loss to Saint Louis, this evening at Fitzgerald Field House. The Billikens won with scores of 30-16, 30-28, 24-30 and 30-26. With her two block assists in the match, Moses (North Olmstead, Ohio/Lutheran West) moved into fourth place on the all-time career block assists list with 286 to date. She passed Sarah Mikla (1992-95) who tallied 285 block assists in her career. In the same manner, Dooley (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) improved to the fourth-best spot on the all-time career solo blocks list. Boasting 64, she slid past Dee MacAulay's (1989-1991) mark of 62. Dooley fell just short of a double-double in the game with nine kills and eight blocks. Junior Nicole Taurence (Trenton, Mich./Trenton) led Pitt (14-14) her second double-double of the season with 39 assists and 12 digs in the match, while senior Diana Andreyko (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) recorded a team-leading 16 kills. Andreyko is now 16 kills shy of the program record. Junior Kelly Campbell (Mansfield, Ohio/Mansfield) led the Panthers with six kills in the third game. In that winning game, Pitt took an early 10-5 lead, as Moses served three of Pitt's points in the run. Later the Panthers extended their lead with a 9-4 run, thanks to two kills and a service ace from Campbell early on. An attack error from Saint Louis (21-6) gave Pitt the 19-9 lead, forcing a Billiken timeout.
Saint Louis then made a push and cut Pitt's lead to 20-15 with one of its 14 kills in the game. Pitt would then take an eight-point lead, 26-18, after a Dooley kill. The Billikens would make another small run but the Panthers held on for the win. In the deciding game, Taurence and Dooley combined on a block to tie game four at 9-9. On the following play Andreyko lifted Pitt to a 10-9 lead with one of her six kills in the game. A block assist from Andreyko and Moses would cap a 12-4 run by Pitt, who trailed 7-4 earlier in the game. However, the Billikens pushed an 11-5 run and took the lead at 22-21 several plays later. An attack error would give Pitt a tie on the next play. Both teams would fight through a tie for the next four points, but Saint Louis would win the sideout and take the eventual win with the 27th point of the game. In the first game of the match, Pitt trailed 15-8 due to seven attack errors. As the game progressed the Panthers would commit 11 attack errors and finish the game with a .031 hitting clip. Junior Stephanie Ross (Dayton, Ohio/Chaminade-Julienne) led the squad with four kills, while Moses and freshman Amy Town (Orillia, Ont./Orillia) combined on a block. After a tied game two, Dooley gave Pitt a slim 11-10 lead after calling for the set. Trailing in the game, a block assist from Campbell and Dooley would cut the game to one, 18-17. On the next play, Dooley would record a solo block to tie the game. Later in the game Pitt would tie the score again at 25, when Moses recorded a kill. However, four plays later Pitt trailed 29-25 and forced a sideout with a kill from Andreyko. The Panthers held Saint Louis and closed the gap to 29-28, but were unable to push ahead. Pitt will honor its seniors Diana Andreyko and Melissa Ferguson (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) on Sunday prior to its 2 p.m. contest against Rutgers. |
