Final Stats

The Pittsburgh volleyball team completed a stellar weekend of play this past weekend, capturing wins over Big East rivals Rutgers and Villanova.

Sophomore outside hitter Wendy Hatlestad (Roseville, Minn./Roseville Area) led the Panthers in a 3-1 (18-30, 30-25, 33-31, 30-24) win over the Scarlet Knights Nov. 9. She posted 34 kills to set a new Pittsburgh four-game match record. The previous mark was 27 set by Marcia Thiesen in 2000. Hatlestad also added 12 digs to her effort for her 10th double-double of the season.

Also in double figures was freshman Gini Ullery (Tracy, Calif./Tracy) who had 16 kills and 14 digs. Junior setter Carrie Norris (Fostoria, Ohio/Hopewell-Loudon) added 54 assists and 10 digs.

The Panthers traveled to Villanova Nov. 11 and swept the host Wildcats, 3-0 (30-21, 30-28, 30-26). Hatlestad led Pittsburgh again with a match-high 16 kills. Junior Dionne Hayden (Mitchellville, Md./Elizabeth-Seton) also had double-figures in kills with 11 and sophomore April Puzauskas (Palos Hills, Ill/Amos Alonzo Stagg) had her fourth double-double of the season with 10 kills and 15 digs.

Pittsburgh's record stands at 10-15 overall and 7-5 in Big East play. The Panthers will return to action Nov. 23-24 when they travel to California for the Long Beach State Thanksgiving Tournament.
