PITTSBURGH - The Pittsburgh volleyball team concluded its 2001 campaign this past weekend in the Long Beach State Thanksgiving Tournament. The Panthers fell, 3-0 (30-26, 30-22, 30-20), to the top-ranked 49ers on Nov. 23, before sweeping Weber State, 3-0 (30-22, 30-26, 30-23), on Nov. 24.

Sophomore Wendy Hatlestad (Roseville, Minn./Roseville Area) led the Panthers in the loss to Long Beach State with a match-high 21 kills. She also added six digs and two block assists. Freshman Gini Ullery (Tracy, Calif.Tracy) also hit in double-figures with 11 kills, while adding four digs and one ace. Junior setter Carrie Norris (Fostoria, Ohio/Hopewell-Loudon) added 33 assists, five digs and two blocks.

Hatlestad added another 21-kill effort against Weber State, while Ullery had her sixth double-double of the year with 11 kills and 14 digs. Junior Dionne Hayden (Mitchellville, Md./Elizabeth-Seton) added 11 digs and Norris had 49 assists and eight digs.

Pittsburgh finished the season with an 11-16 record overall and was fifth in the Big East with a 7-5 mark in league play.
