PITTSBURGH - Pitt volleyball head coach Chris Beerman and his staff will be hosting the 9th Annual Pittsburgh Volleyball Camp Series for the summer of 2008. Registration forms are available on the main volleyball page of www.pittsburghpanther.com.
The camps feature training from Beerman, now in his ninth year as Pitt's head coach and his 13th overall season as a Division I head coach. He guided the Panthers to consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances in 2003 and 2004 as well as the 2003 Big East Championship.
Pitt will offer four camps for girls, including a defensive/libero camp (July 17), a setter camp (July 18-19), a hitter camp (July 20-21) and a skills camp (July 22-24). The skills camp encompasses all levels of experience from beginning middle school-aged players to the advanced high school-aged. The specialty camps tend to be geared more towards players with prior volleyball experience. Campers will always be trained and grouped according to age, grade and experience level.

CAMP FORMATS
Defensive/Libero Camp
July 17, 2008
9 a.m.-Noon and 1-4 p.m.
Commuters only -- $55.00
This camp is designed for the player who plays defensive specialist or libero for their team looking to improve their individual defense, passing, back row attack and serving. This camp also serves the positional player looking to improve on their backcourt skills. The collegiate libero position will be discussed, along with the training and skills required to becoming a collegiate libero and marketing yourself as a scholarship prospect.
Setter CampJuly 18-19, 2008
9 a.m.-Noon and 1-4 p.m.
Commuters only -- $110.00 This camp is geared for the beginner setter in training to the most advanced setter looking for specific setter training at the highest levels in preparation for a college career. The setter position will be broken down and training will include footwork, hand position, tempos, setter attack, decision-making skills, choices, the psychological and leadership aspects of the position and basic setter repetition drills.
Hitter Camp
July 20-21, 2008
9 a.m.-Noon and 1-4 p.m.
Commuters only -- $110.00
This camp is specifically designed for the advanced or intermediate player who requires more training in the area of attacking the ball. All technical and tactical aspects of attacking, including footwork, shots, tempos, off-speed and specific positional training will be taught allowing the camper to train and learn now attacking skills. This camp is great for attackers of all positions. Each player will learn the valuable subtleties that give great hitters the big advantage in clutch moments
Skills Camp
July 22, 23, 24, 2008
9 a.m.-Noon and 1-4 p.m.
Commuters only -- $165.00
This camp is geared for all ages and ability levels looking to improve their all-around game. Every skill will have a detailed introduction with progressive drills and teaching with the philosophy of technical improvement within the team concept as a goal. Training will include beginning and advanced individual and team concepts as well as a variety of training methods. This is a great camp for the beginning player or the more experienced player looking to improve their all-around game or improve specific skills.
CAMP DETAILS
Campers are responsible for their own meals. Times for all campers are 9 a.m.-Noon; lunch from Noon-1 p.m.; and 1-4 p.m. daily.
What Each Camper Gets:
Each camper, regardless of which camp or camps you attend, will receive an Adidas Pitt Panthers t-shirt, a Gatorade key chain and a limitless supply of Gatorade to drink during the camp. Campers must bring their own lunch for every camp.
Facilities:
All camp sessions will take place in the air-conditioned Petersen Events Center, located on Terrace Street on Pitt's upper campus.
What to Bring:
Please bring kneepads, shorts, t-shirts, socks, shoes, and lunch.
Medical and Insurance Info:
All participants must be covered by personal medical insurance. Each camper is asked to supply the company name, company address, policy number and name of the provider. Parents must sign the parental release. An athletic trainer will be present at all camp sessions.
