PITTSBURGH—Head Women’s Volleyball Coach Toby Rens has announced the dates of its summer volleyball camps to be held in July at Fitzgerald Field House. Registration is now available online for teams as well as individual players.

All of the camps will be instructed by Rens, members of the Pitt volleyball staff, along with current and former players. Additionally, campers will receive a Pitt Volleyball t-shirt.

The first camp date set is the Setter/Hitter Camp 1 from July 9-10. This camp is designed for those entering sixth grade through seniors in high school. Participants will get individualized instruction by position along with focusing on hitting and setting techniques for better execution during game situations.

Next, the Panthers will run the first of two Weekend Team Tournaments from July 10-12. The tournament gives teams a great opportunity to train for the upcoming 2009 season, under the direction of Rens and his staff.

The following four days will be the All Skills Camp from July 13-16. In this camp, participants will learn the fundamentals of volleyball in all aspects of the game. Students will be individually instructed on how to serve, receive serves, forearm pass, set, attack, block, cover attacks, team defense, team reception and team transition. Campers will be placed in groups of similar age.

The next week of camp will include the second Setter/Hitter Camp and a Ball Control Camp from July 17-19. In the ball control camp, the Panthers will help campers improve upon their back-court skills, with an emphasis on passing, individual defense, serving and serve reception. Participants will be trained by position.

Volleyball Team Camp will be held on July 23 and 24 in conjunction with the second Weekend Team Tournament on July 24-26. Teams participating must have a minimum of eight players and be accompanied by one coach.
