PITTSBURGH – Now two full weeks into spring practice, the University of Pittsburgh volleyball team is approaching its four spring competition dates which begins on March 28th at Penn State.
“Right now our team is moving toward playing a higher level of volleyball and we are anxious to get into competitive situations with teams from other universities,” assistant coach Craig Dyer said. “This spring we are fortunate to have 14 healthy athletes in the gym. For several of our competition dates, we will split the squad into two teams to maximize the amount of playing time for the entire team. Our staff is proud of the work put in by the team so far this spring and we look forward to seeing how their training translates into game situations.”
The Panthers will kick off their spring competition by traveling to State College, Pa. for a scrimmage/practice at Penn State. This will be the second straight season the Panthers and the Nittany Lions have met in spring competition.
Pitt will then play in three consecutive tournaments, beginning on April 5th at Duquesne. The following weekend, April 12th, the Panthers will travel to Philadelphia to participate in the Villanova Spring Tournament.
Pitt will conclude spring action by hosting a tournament at Fitzgerald Field House on April 19th. The Panthers finished the season by winning their final six games of the season and finished 19-14 overall and 11-9 in the ACC. Pitt returns 14 players from last year’s squad.
