“Ryan is a seasoned veteran of college volleyball. He is going to help this program in many ways,” Fisher said. “What stood out in the interview process were his superior organizational skills, his knowledge of the game at a high level, and his ability to use technology to help this team move forward.”
A 2008 graduate of Chico State University in California, Newell has spent the past four years as an assistant coach. His most recent stint was with Seattle U, and prior to that, Newell was an assistant at the University of California, San Diego from 2010-12.
From 2009-10, Newell served as a volunteer assistant coach for the University of California. Newell helped the Golden Bears to a 21-11 overall record and a berth in the NCAA Tournament.
Newell was a member of the Chico State club volleyball team from 2003-08, and was club president and team captain from 05-08. He also served as an assistant coach for the Chico State women’s volleyball team from 05-08 and helped the Wildcats to a 71-43 overall record during his time.
