PITTSBURGH - The University of Pittsburgh volleyball team concluded their spring season last week, after participating in three tournaments including the Indy Collegiate Invitational, YSU Spring Tournament and the Panther Spring Invitational at the Fitzgerald Field House.
 
Pitt finished its spring tournaments with 10 victories, two splits and no losses.
 
Indy Collegiate Invitational
The Panthers began their spring slate strong, taking down Ohio University 25-19, 25-16. In Pitt's next match against Indiana, the squad split the match, winning the first set 25-18 and dropping the second set 25-21. Pitt also split the third match against Ball State, losing the first set 25-22 before bouncing back and winning the second set 25-14. The Panthers ended the Invitational on a high note, beating Purdue 25-22, 25-21.
 
YSU Spring Tournament
In Pitt's second spring tournament, the Panthers claimed a 25-15, 25-18 win over Duquesne in their opening match. Pitt would continue its strong play, winning its second match against Wheeling Jesuit 25-20, 25-15. The Panthers battled Akron in their third contest of the day, winning the first set 25-16, dropping the second set 25-20 and winning the final set 15-10. Pitt finished the day with a sweep against WVU 30-28, 25-20 to finish 4-0 for the tournament.
 
Panther Spring Invitational
Returning home for their final spring tournament, the Panthers came out on top in their first match against Cleveland State winning 25-22, 29-27. In a rematch against the Mountaineers, Pitt once again topped WVU 25-18, 25-16. In their third match of the day, the Panthers took down Youngstown State 25-15, 25-18. Pitt would finish undefeated in the tournament, getting the final win against Miami (OH), 25-22, 25-20.
 
The Panthers return multiple key pieces from the 2016 team that reached the NCAA Tournament. Those players include AVCA Division I Honorable Mention All-American Stephanie Williams, ACC Setter of the Year and AVCA All-Region selection Kamalani Akeo and All-ACC Second Team selection Mariah Bell.
