PITTSBURGH - The University of Pittsburgh volleyball team (9-4) plays its final non-conference match before Big East action on Tuesday evening as the Panthers travel to cross-town rival Duquesne (10-5). First serve is set for 7 p.m. at the Palumbo Center.
The Panthers look to regain momentum heading towards conference action after going 1-2 last weekend at the Ball State Tournament. Senior libero Margy Acton led the way in Muncie, Ind., as she was named to the all-tournament team for averaging 5.11 digs per set. Acton has been named to the all-tournament team in three of the four tournaments Pitt has played this season and she ranks fifth in the Big East with a 5.13 digs per set average.
Freshman Jessica Boddy is coming off a career-high 14 kill performance against Wright State where she also tied a career-high with five total blocks. Through her last five matches, Boddy is averaging 2.63 kills per set and has compiled 42 of her 66 total kills.
Three of the five Duquesne losses this season have come against nationally-ranked opponents (No. 1 Nebraska, No. 4 Penn State, No. 19 Kentucky), while the other two were at the hands of Oklahoma and New Mexico.
Duquesne has four players who have recorded at least 100 kills, led by Allison Foschia with 152 (3.04 kills per set). Foschia has tallied 127 digs as well, while Sara Scheirman also plays all-around and has notched 126 kills and 153 digs on the campaign.
A LOOK INTO THE SERIES:
The Panthers have absolutely dominated the series with the Dukes, winning 39 of the 41 meetings between the two universities. Pitt has won the last six matches, including a 3-1 victory last November inside Fitzgerald Field House.
