PROVIDENCE, R.I.—Senior Meagan Dooley earned Big East Player of the Week, after leading the Panthers to three victories during the Pitt Blue Gold Tournament at Fitzgerald Field House. Dooley was previously named to the honor roll twice this season.
Dooley became the first Panther this season to earn Player of the Week honors, and the first since Kelly Campbell on Oct. 20, 2009.
“I’m very happy for Meagan,” Head Coach Toby Rens said. “This honor is very well deserved. She has worked hard, if not harder than anyone else on the team. She has been consistent all season, earning all-tournament in each weekend.”
In the three matches, last week, Dooley collected 53 kills, 12 blocks and a .410 hitting clip in the tournament. Additionally, she was selected to her fourth all-tournament team when she earned All-Blue Gold honors.
In the 3-1 victory over Valparaiso, Dooley recorded 20 kills, hit .562 and stuffed seven balls in four sets. Her .562 hitting clip was the best posting for any Panther this season. Dooley concluded the weekend with a season-high 22 kills and four blocks against Youngstown State.
On the year, she is averaging a .354 hitting clip and 1.35 blocks per set. Those numbers rank her second in both categories, among the rest of the Big East leaders.
“This award validates how we feel about Meagan this season,” Rens added.
The Panthers (8-6) open conference play on Saturday, Sept. 26, against Marquette at 2 p.m.
