PITTSBURGH—Pitt’s women’s volleyball team opens Big East play on the road this weekend against Villanova and Seton Hall. The Panthers meet the Wildcats on Saturday, Sept. 27, at 2 p.m., before facing the Pirates for a 2 p.m. contest on Sunday, Sept. 28.
Pitt (7-7, 0-0 Big East) won the Pitt Invitational last week with victories over Gonzaga (3-2), Eastern Michigan (3-2) and VCU (3-1). The Panthers enter the weekend on a four-match win streak after defeating Robert Morris (3-0), earlier in the week.
Senior Kelly Campbell (Mansfield, Ohio/Mansfield-Pacific) was honored as Pitt Invitational MVP, recording a season-high 20 kills in the championship match against VCU. She also added a career-high of 19 digs against Eastern Michigan.
Additionally, Campbell was honored on the Big East honor roll as she leads the squad in kills (170).
Junior Michelle Rossi (Cleveland, Ohio/Padua Franciscan) posted 32 digs against Eastern Michigan, matching her career-high. She leads the squad with 4.58 digs per set.
Villanova (8-5, 0-0 Big East) is coming off a sweep over Penn in the Villanova Classic. Kim Maroon took MVP honors as she earned a career-high 21 digs in the match. Pitt leads Villanova (30-6) in the series.
Also playing the Quakers, Seton Hall (6-7, 0-0 Big East) enters the match after dropped a 3-0 match, last weekend. Allie Matters recorded her 1,000th career dig after she collected 21 in the Penn contest. Pitt holds a 32-3 series lead over Seton Hall.
