Women's Volleyball Faces No. 19 St. John's and Connecticut On The Road

PITTSBURGH--The Pitt women's volleyball team continues Big East action this weekend against St. John's and Connecticut, with a three-match winning streak on the line. Pitt will face the Red Storm on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Carnescca Arena in Queens, N.Y. Then on Sunday, the Panthers meet the Huskies at 2 p.m. in Storrs, Conn. Pitt (8-7) opened league play with back-to-back wins over Notre Dame (3-1) and DePaul (3-0), last weekend. The Panthers improved to a 5-0 home record with the victories, including the thrilling 3-1 win over the Fighting Irish with 1046 fans in attendance for the "AVCA Match of the Week." Pitt was led by junior Kelly Campbell (Mansfield, Ohio/Mansfield/Pacific), who was named Big East Player of the Week for her impressive play in both conference matches. Campbell currently leads the Panthers in kills (229), total attacks (570), and aces (11). Heading into the weekend, Pitt holds series leads over both St. John's and Connecticut. The Panthers are 11-3 against the Red Storm and 12-7 in matches against the Huskies. No. 19 St. John's (17-2) is coming off an eight-game win streak, including a shutout victory over Villanova (3-0). The Red Storm were led by Hui Ping and Valeria Kovaleva with a team-high 12 kills apiece in the contest. Coming off a shutout win of its own, Connecticut (10-4) is led by Kate Seabaugh with a team-leading 146 kills and 396 total attacks.
