PITTSBURGH—In the spirit of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Pitt women’s volleyball team has announced that its October 23 contest against rival West Virginia will be dubbed the “Blocking Out Breast Cancer” Match.
Each October volleyball programs at every level of the game have been aiding in efforts to raise money and awareness for breast cancer research. The most frequently diagnosed cancer among women in the United States, breast cancer is a disease that has been diagnosed in women with no family history.
Because of that, head coach Toby Rens is asking that all fans will come out in their pink to support finding a cure, while cheering on the Panthers against their long-time rival West Virginia at Fitzgerald Field House.
“Many of us have been touched in different ways by this disease,” Rens said. “I hope someday soon we will find a cure. Please join us in bringing awareness to this fight against breast cancer by wearing pink.”
Prior to the match, a donation will be made to the Susan G. Komen Foundation for breast cancer research. Details on that donation and other events will be released at a later time.
