Volleyball Wins Ninth Straight in 3-0 Victory Over St. John's

Sarah Rollman and Megan Miller combined for 31 kills to keep the Panthers unbeaten in Big East play.

Senior Sarah Rollman and junior Megan Miller combined for 31 kills and 11 blocks as the Pittsburgh volleyball team won its ninth straight match and 13th in its past 14 matches. The Panthers topped Big East rival St. John’s, 30-15, 32-30, 30-25, to move to 15-3 on the season and remain unbeaten in the conference at 5-0.
Rollman (Norfolk, Neb./Norfolk) had a match-high 16 kills and added 10 digs for a double-double and four blocks. Miller (Milford, Conn./Jonathan Law) hit .444 with 15 kills and just three errors in 27 attempts, had a career-high four solo blocks and finished with seven total in the victory.
Also contributing to the Panthers’ offense was senior Wendy Hatlestad (Roseville, Minn./Roseville Area), with nine kills, nine digs and three blocks. Junior setter Lindsey Macke (Ft. Thomas, Ky./Notre Dame Academy) averaged 15 assists per game with a total of 45 against the Red Storm (20-6, 2-2). Junior Abby Fechhelm (Roscoe, Ill./Hononegah) led the Panthers with 11 digs to go along with four kills.
St. John’s was led by Jackie Ahlers, who had 13 kills but only hit .118 with nine errors in 34 attempts. Nicole Colaluca had a match-high 19 digs and the Red Storm’s setter, Robyn Kurasaki, had 23 assists.
Pittsburgh will face crosstown rival Duquesne at the A.J. Palumbo Center on Tuesday evening in a non-conference matchup before a long layoff. The Panthers’ next home game will be Friday, Oct. 24 against Seton Hall at 7 p.m.
