Mission Statement
The mission of The Pitt Varsity Letter Club is to support the University of Pittsburgh and its Department of Athletics by fostering enduring relationships between varsity letterwinners and the University. The Pitt Varsity Letter Club endeavors to strengthen bonds among former varsity letterwinners, to champion an environment in which current student-athletes can achieve athletic and academic excellence and thereby promote the proud tradition of intercollegiate athletic competition at the University of Pittsburgh.

History
Founded in 1931 under the devoted leadership of Executive Secretary George I. Carson, the Pitt Varsity Letter Club (VLC) has existed to promote excellence in both academics and athletics at the University. Throughout its history, the Club has provided financial support, leadership, social interaction, and valuable networking for our athletes and programs. Over the years, the PITT VLC has provided scholarship support to undergraduate student-athletes, purchased equipment for Olympic sports and subsidized travel to Olympic trials for athletes who would not have been able to do so without the club's assistance. For the past few years, the PITT VLC has also awarded graduate school grants to qualifying student-athletes.

Just as the teammates, coaches, and fans looked to this group of individuals to fill Pitt's sports on the playing fields, we now look to former student-athletes to fill the ranks of the PITT Varsity Letter Club. It is a way for former athletes to give back to Pitt, while supporting our current student-athletes. Each year, thanks to contributions for former letterwinners, the PITT Varsity Letter Club awards the Varsity Letter Club Endowed Scholarship to an undergraduate student-athlete.

The PITT Varsity Letter Club is the membership organization driven to reconnect you with the University, your sport, and your teammates. We recognize and honor all former letterwinners for your dedication, excellence and contributions to the success of Pitt Athletics.

Membership includes an annual gift of a $100 or $50 (if graduating after 2006). These membership dues go strictly into athletic scholarships for current student-athletes. The 452 Pitt student-athletes who currently represent our University on the playing fields need and deserve our support. You are Pitt.
