Founded in 1931 under the devoted leadership of Executive Secretary George I. Carson, the Pitt Varsity Letter Club (VLC) has existed to promote excellence in both academics and athletics at the University of Pittsburgh. Throughout its history, the VLC has provided valuable financial support to Pitt student-athletes through generous gifts made by former letterwinners. Each year, these annual gifts combine to support the Pitt Varsity Letter Club Endowed Scholarship, which is awarded annually to a current Pitt student-athlete. The 2014-15 recipient of the VLC Endowed Scholarship is J.P. Holtz, a junior tight end on the Pitt football team.
