Pitt 5, Memphis 0 – Box Score
The Panthers' season opener looked to be a pitcher's duel early on as just one hit was recorded through the first three innings.
Kylie Griggs (1-for-4) broke the scoreless tie after reaching first base and advanced to second on a muffed throw by the Memphis third baseman. Griggs advanced to third on a wild pitch and eventually scored on a Ramirez (1-for-3) groundout to put the Panthers up 1-0.
Kyra Pittman made her Panthers' debut in the circle, throwing 18 strikes in her first 25 pitches and took a no-hitter into the bottom of the fourth inning. Pittman gave up back-to-back singles to the first two batters of the fourth before retiring the next three straight batters to end the inning and strand two Memphis runners.
Pitt scored four runs in the fifth inning to extend their lead 5-0. Hannah Greer and Kat Rodriguez drew back-to-back walks before Hamilton put the ball in play which led to Greer scoring on a fielding error from the Memphis first baseman. Griggs capped off the inning with a three-run homer to center field off the first pitch of the at-bat, bringing Pitt's led to 5-0.
Pittman allowed just three hits with one walk in 5.0 shutout innings of work. Olivia Stefanoni pitched the final two innings of relief, retiring all six batters faced and recorded one strikeout.
