PITTSBURGH – Head coach Greg Miller has announced the duo set to lead the women’s soccer squad for the 2016 season, as Siobhan McDonough and Emma Pozzulo are set to captain the Pitt squad.
McDonough enters her third season as a Pitt captain, as she prepares to take the field for her senior season. Pozzulo will serve as a second-year captain as the junior heads into her junior season.
“We are excited to have Emma and Siobhan leading our group this fall,” said head coach Greg Miller. “These are two strong women who have earned the trust and respect of both the coaching staff and their teammates. They are ‘team-first’ people who have a good deal of leadership experience already and who each bring something a little different in their approach, but are equally qualified to lead us to success.”
A defender, McDonough appeared in 15 games for the Panthers last season, lending one goal and two assists for four points. In addition, the Pitt defense shutout seven opponents, holding its challengers to 28 goals in 18 contests.
Midfielder Pozzulo dealt with an injury plagued 2015 season, appearing in seven contests and attempting one shot on the year.
The Panthers will kick off the season on Thursday, Aug. 11 as they host Ohio State in an exhibition at Ambrose Urbanic Field. They’ll close out exhibition action on Aug. 13 at Kentucky, before opening the regular season at Big 10 powerhouse Michigan on Aug. 19. Pitt will compete in its first regular season match at Ambrose Urbanic Field on Sunday, Aug. 21 when it hosts Pittsburgh rival Duquesne at 6 p.m.
